In January 1971, former General Dynamics Corporation engineers Thurlow "Suds” Sutherland, Norman Johnstone, and program manager John Corryn joined together to form SCJ Associates, Inc. Out of their small 1,000-square-foot office on the east end of Brighton-Henrietta Townline Road in Rochester, New York, the three partners set out to secure clients and establish their business.
As the country grew and changed in the 1970's, SCJ evolved into a viable company by providing turnkey engineering and manufacturing services. In 1988, Suds Sutherland became the sole shareholder and owner of SCJ. In 2002, SCJ initiated an Employee Stock Ownership Program. Today, over three decades later, all employees have a direct stake in the future of the company, and the trusting relationships we build with our customers.
This strong and productive company has equipment operating in China, England, the Netherlands, Brazil, South Korea, Canada and Mexico, among other countries. A worldwide business may have grown out of an immediate need, but it has evolved into a well-founded multigenerational business in Rochester, New York.
SCJ is well positioned to extend our services into the lead-free electronics world that is quickly approaching. Our investments in equipment and personnel have also enabled us to expand our prototype manufacturing niche into production volumes for surface mount technology. |
